How to Make Yourself a Morning Person

When it comes to being a morning person, most people might consider it to be a permanent personality trait. You either are or aren’t a morning person. However, that isn’t completely true. If you want, you can make some changes to your daily habits to help you become a morning person. 

Eat Breakfast 

Part of the reason it’s so hard for people to feel like a morning person is that they’re simply too tired in the morning. Now, everyone experiences some drowsiness when they first wake up, but your immediate habits will impact whether or not you get over that sleepiness. Eating breakfast every morning is a great way to help you feel more awake. 

When you eat breakfast, you give your body the energy it needs to wake up and feel ready for the day. What you choose to eat will also make a difference. Focus on foods that give you energy as well as nutrients. Eating plenty of fruit in the morning along with foods that are high in fiber is ideal. In addition to making you feel more awake, eating breakfast every morning helps you avoid excess weight gain and it makes you more likely to meet your daily fruit and vegetable intake. 

Improve Your Sleep Habits 

You can also set yourself up for a better morning if you make sure you get plenty of sleep the night before. On average, an adult should get 7-9 hours of quality sleep each night. 

This means you need to schedule yourself enough time to sleep and you need to begin a night routine early enough for you to feel sleepy when you need to go to bed. Creating the right environment can help you achieve better quality sleep. For the best sleep, your room should be cool, dark, and quiet. It can also help if you purchase a higher-quality mattress and pillow so you can sleep comfortably. 

Be Consistent 

Your body works on an internal clock that determines when you naturally feel sleepy at night and when you wake up each morning. You can reset this internal clock to help you wake up earlier and slowly become accustomed to that new wake-up time. However, it only works if you are consistent. This means you need to be getting up at the same time every day including weekends. If you make too many exceptions to your new sleep schedule, then it will be more difficult to maintain.

Making yourself into a morning person can help you get more of a jump on the day. You can feel more energized throughout the day and you can accomplish more when you get up earlier. It can be challenging to make this change, but it’s certainly worth it.
